Prior to stepping into the world of entrepreneurship, John Sims was a lauded hotelier under the Marriott Corporation. Upon earning a degree in Business Administration and Management, John stepped into his first full-time position with the company, through which his parents owned five hotels around the United States. Shortly thereafter, it became increasingly clear that John possessed innate talents in the hospitality industry. As a result, he caught the attention of Mr. Bill Marriott himself. The two soon formed a solid relationship that ultimately led to John being fast-tracked to management and provided the opportunity to champion his own future success. And John did not disappoint.
By the age of 22, John Sims was named the Vice President of Marriott’s Operations Franchising Group. In this capacity, he oversaw the operations of over 10 properties around the United States, managed the sales and marketing departments, and spearheaded financial training. By the time the Marriott Corporation began its process of launching an IPO with Morgan Stanley, John was entrusted with working closely with the Morgan Stanley team to ensure they understood the operational vision of the company and executed the IPO in accordance with those standpoints.
After a successful seven-year tenure with Marriott, John Sims decided to branch out on his own, not only to further determine the success of his career track but to spend more time with his wife and children as well. With more experience under his belt than most people his age possessed, John stepped into the realm of entrepreneurship, successfully spearheading over 100 successful start-ups, with Black Onyx being his most recent venture.
On this website, John Sims will delve into the topic of leadership and the principles of leading successful teams.
